Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University(DBRANLU), Rai, Sonipat, has been established by the State Government of Haryana in the year 2012 by the State Legislature Act No. 15 of 2012. By the State legislature amendment in 2014, the name of the university was changed from National Law University to Dr. B. R.  Ambedkar  National Law University in the honour of  Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the great social reformer and architect of our modern legal system and the Constitution of  India.The university is situated in the Rajiv Gandhi Educational City, Rai, Sonipat where more than thirteen renowned educational institutions and universities have been established and are functional. The location provides a perfect positive and friendly environment for education besides overall development of students. The university has firmly resolved to impart advanced legal education, practical legal skills and inter disciplinary understanding, keeping in view the requirements of a just and equitable society.The Chief Justice of India or his nominee, who shall be sitting Judge of the Supreme Court, shall be the visitor of the University. Hon'ble Satyadeo Narain Arya, Governor Haryana is the Chancellor and Prof (Dr.) Viney Kapoor Mehra, is the founder Vice Chancellor of the University. Dr. Madan Lal is the founder Registrar.




Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University has been established to serve the society by providing professionally competent and pragmatic law graduates with scientific and objective temperament bearing well rounded personality, who knows much more than law. In this era of technology and globalization, we envisage a process of legal education by imparting value based, intellectually stimulating academic environment whereby our law graduates are not only the leaders in various streams of legal profession but also  develop proper aptitude with right attitude to serve. Our primary mission is to shape the legal education as an instrument to provide justice- Social, Economical and Political.


  • 1. To evolve and impart comprehensive legal education including distance and regular legal education at all levels to achieve excellence in the field of law and its allied disciplines.
  • 2. To organize advanced studies and promote research in all branches of law and allied disciplines.
  • 3. To disseminate legal knowledge and legal processes and their role in national development by organizing lectures, seminars, symposia, workshops and conferences.
  • 4. To promote cultural, legal and ethical values with a view to promote and foster the rule of law and the objectives enshrined in the Constitution of India.
  • 5. To improve the ability to analyse contemporary issues of public concern and their legal implications for the benefit of public.
  • 6. To liaison with institutions of higher learning and research in India and abroad.
  • 7. To publish periodicals, treaties, study books, reports, journals and other literature on all subjects relating to law.
  • 8. To promote legal awareness in the community for achieving social and economic justice.
  • 9. To do all such things as are incidental, necessary or conducive to the attainment of all or any of the objectives of the university.



The campus infrastructure is in the final stages of completion and comprises following buildings.


The academic and administrative blocks are built on the latest architecture marvel and are fully equipped with the state-of-the-art infrastructure, modern teaching aids and equipments important for academic pursuits. The university will provide air-conditioned class-rooms fitted with latest teaching aids which create a quality academic environment. It will have a well-equipped and fully air- conditioned Computer Lab with internet facility. In addition to this, the universityis to provide a fully Wi-Fi enabled campus. The Language Lab equipped with modern gadgets and learning tools will help in improving the writing and presentation skills of the students. Hostels for Boy and GirlScholars are complete in all respects and Guest House, Canteen, Tuck-Shop, Dispensary, Full-fledged Bank, ATM and Utility Centre are in final stages.



In any educational institution, a properplace with suitable ambience and environment for study with concentration and availability of huge resource bank of study materialthat is books and modern source of ICT arebasic necessity. Our university is toprovide a well designed huge separate library premises with air-conditioned reading halls having a sufficient seating capacity. The library will be equipped with modern stacks with varied and rich collection of text books, journals, reference books and periodicals. The library will also provide access to many useful legal online databases for the benefit of the students, research scholars and faculty members as well. Printing facilities inside the library for the benefit of the students and the faculty are to be provided.







As a fully residential university, DBRANLU has separate Hostels of residence for boys and girls. There are two large wings having huge occupancy for boys and girls with all the necessary and reasonable facilities like GYM, indoor games, fully AC entertainment room, guest roometc. Hostel being miniature societies enable students to meet people from diversified cultural backgrounds, facilitate mutual interaction, sharing, understanding and appreciating one another’s views and experiences. It helps to widen their worldview and acquire important inter-personal skills. As a ‘home away from home’, the campus life offers exciting experiences to students coming from diverse sections and different regions of the country. Here indoor and outdoor game facilities such as table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton, basketball, volleyball, cricket, football etc. provide congenial environment to the inmates. Medical facilities, including visiting doctor is a part of the set up.


DBRANLU is committed to provide a rich culture of mooting among the students for practical learning of litigation skills. To help, prepare and train the students in their mooting exercises, the university envisages advanced Moot Court Hall carefully designed to match the standards of the Supreme Court of India and the High Courts. Inviting renowned Hon’ble Judges, judicial officers and brilliant lawyers at moot court competitions, seminars and workshops will be the main part of mooting program. Visits and internships to courts, and other related departments such as revenue departments, police stations is going to be a vital part of practical learning


In the modern era of ICT revolutionhigh speed internet provide wide range of learning resources and digital libraries. So, the university will provide access to internet and optimal use of ICT by all the faculty members and students.The university initiated its efforts by surfacing a plan for developing a campus wide computer network with a mandate to link together all the computing resources located in different departments, research center and other buildings of the university. The university will also provide the Wi-Fi facilities in all hostels.


B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five-Year Integrated Course

DBRANLU is going to startits First batch for B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five Year Integrated Course from the academic year 2019-20. The total number of seats for the B.A. LL.B (Hons.) Five-Years Integrated Course shall be One Hundred and Twenty (120).


The Governing Council

The Governing Council of the University shall be plenary authority of the University and shall formulate and review from time to time the broad policies and programmes of the University and devises measures for the improvement and development of the University. The Chancellor is the Chairperson and the Vice Chancellor is Convener of the Governing Council. Chief Secretary, Government of Haryana, Chairman,Bar Council of India, Advocate General of Haryana and others as per university Act are the members of the Governing Council. The Registrar is the member secretary.

The Executive Council

The Executive Council is the Chief Executive Authority of the University having powers to administer the University subject to the provisions of the University Act and the statutes made there under. It may make regulations for that purpose. The Vice Chancellor is the Chairperson of the Executive Council. Chairman, Bar Council of India, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Government, Haryana, Finance Department and Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Government, Haryana, Higher Education Department and others as per university Actare the members of the Executive Council.

The Academic Council

The Academic Council of the University is responsible to manage the academic affairs of the University as per University Act, Statutes and Regulations. The Vice Chancellor is the Chairperson of the Academic Council. Director General/Director Higher Education, Haryana, Nominee ofBar Council of India,all the Deans of faculties and all the Head of the Departments and others as per university Act are the members of the Academic Council.

The Finance Committee

The Finance Committee deals with the financial matters of the University. It examines and scrutinizes the Annual Budget of the University and makes its recommendations to the Executive Council. The Vice Chancellor is the Chairperson of the Finance Committee. Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Government, Haryana , Finance Department and the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Government, Haryana, Higher Education Departmentand the Director General/Director Higher Education, Haryana and others as per university Act are the members of the Finance Committee. Registrar is the member secretary of the committee.
